Donations of food, bedding, toys, and other essentials make an enormous difference to the comfort and wellbeing of our rescue dogs. Our wish list highlights the items we rely on most each day at the sanctuary.
Whether it’s a blanket, a lead, a bag of food, or a toy, every contribution helps us provide a safe, happy, and healthy environment for all the rescue dogs in our care. Even the smallest donation has a real impact on the dogs’ daily lives, and we are truly grateful for any support you can give.
Dogs Aid is a fully volunteer‑run rescue, and our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their time and dedication ensure that our dogs are cared for, safe, and comfortable every single day.
Essential day‑to‑day work includes: caring for the dogs, cleaning kennels, washing & drying food bowls, laundry, supervising playtime, and walking the dogs. These tasks keep the sanctuary running smoothly and ensure every dog is comfortable, healthy, and well looked after.
There are also plenty of other ways to get involved. Volunteers help with fundraising, events, home checks, administrative support, and other behind‑the‑scenes tasks that keep the charity going.
Whether you can spare a few hours each week or help out occasionally, we (and the dogs) would love to have you as part of our volunteer team.
Dogs Aid is entirely staffed by volunteers and funded by public donations. We rely on the kindness of our supporters to help us care for every dog that comes through our doors. Every donation, big or small, helps provide essential food, medical care, safe shelter, and the everyday comforts our rescue dogs depend on.

Tony is our big softie at the sanctuary. He is a loving, playful & loyal boy. Tony is not reactive to other dogs, however, we think he would be best suited as the only dog in the home setting. He loves to train and knows how to sit, stay & give both paws! Tony loves his Kongs & tug toys and also adores long walks. He is strong on lead but relaxes once the initial excitement wears off!
FOOD: We feed our dogs Red Mills Engage Salmon & Rice, with a small spoon of Pedigree Chum (unless a special diet is required). We are always incredibly grateful for any bag or tin donated.
LEADS: We primarily use slip leads, as they are the most secure. While we don’t use retractable leads, regular clip‑on leads are very welcome too, as they’re useful for extending our slip leads when needed.
COLLARS: Clip‑fasten collars work best for us, and we always need a mix of sizes to fit dogs of all shapes and stages. 
TOYS: Due to the number of dogs that play with the toys each day, and to prevent any risk of pieces being swallowed, we can only use very durable, robust toys. ChuckIt! and Kong toys are the ones that stand up best to heavy use. For playtime in the runs, the dogs also love tennis balls, footballs, and basketballs. 
BLANKETS: Every dog gets a blanket for bedtime. During winter there is “not good drying out”, so having plenty of spares is essential. We hugely appreciate small and medium baby, dog, or house blankets / throws, and towels (used for drying the dogs).
VET BEDS: Each kennel has a soft vet bed, which acts as a thick and fluffly base, underneath the dog’s blanket. These are washed frequently, so spare pieces are always needed. They are bought in rolls and we cut them to size at the sanctuary.
POO BAGS: Poo bags are used on every walk, and we favour biodegradable ones to help reduce our environmental impact.
BLUE ROLL: We try to use as much reusable material as possible when cleaning the kennels, however blue roll is essential for unexpected accidents and quick clean-ups.
We never want to sound pushy, we simply want to make sure that any hard‑earned money people choose to spend on Dogs Aid goes toward items that genuinely help the dogs.
